IS IT A SIN TO WORRY? Answer: Worry is wrong. Whether we’re worrying about something bad happening to us or something good not happening to us, worry is wrong. Why is worry so wrong? Because our focus is all off when we worry. Worry causes the focus to be upon how bad the problem is and upon the fact that we can’t seem to find a way to solve the problem. The spiritual opposite of worry is prayer. Instead of worrying we should pray! Prayer gets the focus off of the problem and onto the Lord. Prayer reminds us that God can solve problems and work in ways that we never could. When you worry about not growing or following God, that worry only deepens the “rut” of bad habits or attitudes. Sometimes it seems as if worry works for a moment... but it’s always very temporary. And you’ll find that the habit gets further and further entrenched in your life. Prayer is the secret to beginning to release the bonds in our lives. Ephesians 6 tells us that prayer is one of the parts of our spiritual armour. Prayer sometimes immediately removes something that is binding us. More often I’ve found that the bondage is lifted slowly. Each prayer that you pray snaps one more strand of the “rope” until one day you wake up and discover a new sense of freedom and growth in your life. Have A Great Week! Ian |
